The Scylla - Wolsung

Some time ago I received from the client a small group of models as a comission from the MicroArt Studio to Wolsung skirmish battle game. The models are small in steampunk theme and look pretty ok. I will try to write a few sentences about my impressions of painting and the problem that arose during the creation.
Już jakiś czas temu otrzymałem od klienta niedużą gromadkę modeli do gry bitewnej Wolsung firmy MicroArt Studio. Modele są niewielkie w klimatach steampunk'u i wyglądają całkiem ok. Postaram się napisać kilka zdań o swoich wrażeniach z malowania i powstałym problemie w czasie tworzenia.

The warband I got counted 8 models: Sybilla Vendetta, Julia Vendetta, 4 pieces of small tentacles and 2 pieces of Abomination. In addition, the client also gave me a scenic bases also from MicroArt Studio, on which the models were to stand. The whole was discussed, so I could take the action.
Całość mieliśmy dogadaną, więc mogłem przystąpić to działania.

Scylla boxart from MicroArt Studio

At the beginning, all bases were magnetized so that the customer could move his figurines on metal stands. It is known, it is convenient and functional as you are wargammer. Easy step. The next thing was to chose a color scheme. And here the stairs started. I had a nice idea in my head that I wanted to do. Namely, because the tentacles are sculpted 'as if they were coming out of the portal', I wanted to make a second source of light from the bottom of the base. Generally, the models were supposed to be in the dark theme despite the slightly sugary appearance of the sculptures. I thought that to create the second source of light I will use a strong contrast between the dark colors of the models and the light from the bottom. I chose a strong, fluorescent green color. The tentacles were supposed to leave portals of such color. And I think I managed to achieve the intended effect. From the bottom we have bright green lighting the entire tentacle from the bottom, while from the top we have the usual light. I added contrast from both the bottom and the top and the tentacles were ready.
Easy step. Następną rzeczą było obmyślenie schematu kolorystycznego. No i tutaj zaczęły się schody.

Trouble started when I was going to paint human figures. No colors, which I came up didn't fit into the scheme previously painted tentacles. I repainted them a few times, until I finally lost my patience and the whole warband flew to the wardrobe waiting for better times. That's how months passed, at the time I finished my not bad project 'Amiga', and then a few other comissions, I also started further projects, and the idea and willingness to finish this Wolsung warband were gone...

...until something has changed. In the end (I think so), I came back with the desire and idea to finish this job. I decided to use red, but a darker red lightened with beige to pink. I won't change the color of the lace, only the whole will get a solid color. Just as this idea was born quickly, I also quickly finished painting these two characters. Sybilla got a few purple and dark accents and white accessories to break the dark colors of red. And that was the end of picking the comission.  I put the varnish on, signed and finito :)
Położyłem jeszcze lakier, podpisałem i finito :)
